Reporting on big stories is simply time-consuming, expensive work. That’s why some newsrooms have cut back on high-impact journalism and others have erected paywalls that mean only those who can afford to pay get access to quality news. We’re determined not to let either of those happen here as we bring you fearless reporting on stories you care about, and keep our journalism free to all. Read more about BuzzFeed News here.

No. We were born of the open web, and reporting to the widest possible audience is in our DNA. As our CEO Jonah Peretti has stated time and again, paywalls are bad for democracy. We’re very focused on building a strong business around news, which includes advertising you see on our pages, exciting new shows on Twitter, Netflix, and Facebook, and support from our members.

100% of the money we make in proceeds from members goes into BuzzFeed News. A lot goes into reporting the news: A staff of 250 reporters and editors and the offices they work in, plus travel, legal expenses, and security to support their reporting.
